Johnny Ive is one of the most important executives at Apple. Just as Steve jobs, Johny has been a key influence in Apple’s design philosophy and brain behind the creative designs of every Apple product from the first iMac to the new Apple watch, the User interface of the iOS and the design of the Spaceship like New Apple campus.
Apple just gave Ive a promotion to the newly created post of Cheif Design officer. As a first ever CDO at the company, Johny will oversee the company’s broader design efforts.
According to memo which was published on 9to5mac. CEO, Tim Cook sent out an email to Apple employees announcing the promotion.
Ive, has served as the company’s senior VP of design for several years, will now oversee the company’s broader design efforts, Johny will still remain responsible for the overall hardware and software interface at the company but Alan Dye will be dedicated to User interface Design and Richard Howarth for industrial design effective from July 1st.
While this will free up more time for Ive to focus more on design of Apple’s retail stores and the New Apple Campus in Cutpertino, Calif.
Johny Ive, 48, joined Apple in 1992 as a full-time employee. When Steve jobs returned to the company, he became its Chief of Industrial Design in 1997. With Steve jobs vision and Ive’s creative design philosophy, Apple produced revolutionary and iconic products including the iMac, iPod, and iPad. Which helped the company turn around. Ive was one of the close friend and still misses Jobs and haven’t removed Steve jobs contacts from his phone.
