Well this is a truly a shocking and surprising launch by Apple. Yesterday’s event by Apple was expected to be all about the iPad Mini and Macbook Pros but quite shockingly the men at Cupertino have gone ahead and launched a new version of their market leading 9.7-inch iPad. The new 4th gen iPad has the same design as the 3rd gen device but goes on to add double the boost in the internals.
The iPad 4th gen comes with a brand new A6x chipset which Apple touts, it promises to bring twice the CPU and GPU power of the A5X that the iPad 3 used which is certainly impressive, other than that the camera has seen a bit of an improvement. The other changes include the new lightning connecter we first saw in the iPhone 5 thus making it consistent over Apple’s line-up since the iPad Mini also features the same. It also has faster Wi-Fi connectivity and expanded LTE.
The fourth-generation iPad features the same Retina display of resolution 1536 x 2048 pixel we love on the third-generation iPad, the same seamless design, its identical to its predecessor to be more specific. It also features the same 10-hour battery life.

It is pretty disappointing for anyone who had purchased the 3rd gen iPad since the fourth-generation iPad will launch at the same price , $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only version and $629 for the 16GB one with cellular radio. Apple seems to have launched the 4th gen iPad to tackle the Surface and the upcoming Nexus tablets. There’s some great news for US users too as the latest iPad will be available on Sprint and obviously others.
iPad 3 owners disappointed but Apple might be planning to give them a relief
Apple with this launch have surely muddied the waters with its loyal consumers since i have been able to see frustration from all iPad 3 buyers since they surely feel cheated. As soon as the fourth generation iPad was announced, people took to the web to express their frustration with Apple. Our very own Sreejesh Suresh had bought the third gen iPad just last month and as expected he is furious right now.
As per reports on CNET, Apple is planning to extend the iPad 3 return period from 14 days to 30 days for all recent iPad 3 purchases, but this has not been confirmed by Apple directly. We’ll have to wait and watch.
The new iPad will go on pre-order this friday, October 26th in select countries and will go sale on November 2nd. The WiFi+Cellular models will be available in mid-November. There is no word as to when the device will come to India but we can expect a pretty steep price.
