LeEco Le2 Review – Offers More than Expected Performance

For a maximum number of audiences, LeEco is nothing new but for some of them, they still aren’t sure about the Whys and Hows of the company and their products. So let’s first talk about some basics of the company, as more knowledge is never harmful.

LeEco (formerly known as LeTv) is a global Internet/ Technology/ Entertainment company delivering industry–disruptive innovative and products for the connected age. It has only been 5 months that LeEco is operating in India and displaying an unbelievable line of consumer products.

They have a very clear vision of connecting everything that matters to modern consumers in future and bringing cost effective products that all people deserve without compromising on the quality. LeEco’s ecosystem ranges from video production & distribution to Internet TV to smart gadgets and more.

In our previous article, we talked about the initial impression of LeEco’s newly launched smart phone Le2, so now let’s take you through a detailed and honest review of the phone. This phone is priced at Rs. 11, 999/- and features a 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, 16 (rear) and 8 (front) mega pixels cameras, Android 6.0 and the highlight being the CLDA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio) audio technology.

Le2 Design Review

Le2 gives a very rich and elegant feel the moment you take a look at it because of its uniform, ultra light (as compared to phones of same price bracket and screen size) and solid metallic body. It has a really smooth and matte finish with the new LeEco logo at the back.

With a 5.5 inch Full HD resolution display the screen covers almost 74.6% of the front panel area against the body making it feel really big and good to grip. Le2 has a very similar designing as compared to its predecessor Le1s. But it’s powerfully competing with the other similar budget smart phones.

All four corners of the phone are evenly curved and the edges feel soft. Rim of the phone has a SIM Card tray slot on one side and Power and Volume Keys on the other. At the bottom of Le2 you’ll find the primary microphone, loudspeaker as well as the USB Type-C port. It also has backlit capacitive touch buttons.

Overall the device if compared to products of the same price range is quite sleek, light weight with elegant looks, strong grip and has a metallic body with fingerprint sensor at the back.

Le2 Display Quality

It has a standard 5.5 inches display accompanied with a Full HD IPS LCD and a resolution of 1920 x 1082 pixels. It produces absolutely stunning colours and gives out rich details at this resolution. The screen is protected with a corning Gorilla Glass 4.

It takes up to 74.6 % of the total phone area which looks reasonably good. One handed operation might not feel so easy but it’s not really too big as compared to some other same budget smart phones.

Whites look white, reds are perfectly saturated and blues are shiny. It’s all flamboyant and bright and overall is a great combination for this display. The only thing we didn’t like is, if we compare it to other such phones, this one does not have adequate brightness levels if taken outdoors plus has a reflective surface.

There also are complaints with some devices having a cracking sound when the LCD is touched too hard. To what extent this is true, we don’t know.

Le2 Specs and Performance

Talking about the performance specs of LE2, it has:

  • Android OS v6.0 Marshmallow
  • Octa – Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 which is a big switch from MediaTek
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • Adreno 510 GPU
  • 8 GHz Processor
  • X8 LTE Modem
  • Hexagon 680 Digital Signal Processor

With all the features mentioned above the phone works comparably well but with a visible difference in the frame rates of animations. But with this price the show doesn’t stop and carries on smoothly.

FingerPrint Sensor

The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back panel right under the camera. The sensor is quite accurate with 0.4 seconds of recognition time which is not fast enough but is considerably better that using the power button all the time.

Le Ecosystem Preinstalled Apps

LeEco provides three exclusive pre-installed applications on the Le2 which are LeView (providing an organised list of videos to watch from across various websites), LIVE (this opens up the LIVE TV content for watching) and LeVidi (bringing premium content from Hungama, Eros and YuppTV).

All the other applications and also the above three are well synchronised with rest of the user interface of Le2. And most importantly, you wouldn’t find an App Drawer on this device.

Le2 Camera

Le2 has a 16 mega pixels auto focus rear camera (with dual LED flash) and an 8 mega pixel fixed focus front camera. Both the cameras provide proper detailing to the pictures and videos and captures true colours, particularly in brightly lit environments.

It doesn’t support image stabilisation because of which moving pictures might end up with a certain amount of blur. The camera quality is best suitable for social media posting and not more than that. The front camera lowers the details a bit but it still can be considered a better camera.

The rear camera placed at the back is slightly extended beyond the phone which may make it vulnerable to scratches.

Le2 Comes with CDLA Audio

LeEco Le2 comes without the 3.5mm jack and instead uses the USB–Type C port on the bottom of the phone for audio output. 100k CDLA earphones will be given out to buyers in the 1st flash sale. Also, an in-box accessory is provided to convert the USB–C into 3.5mm Jack.

LeEco has done away with the earphone jack and expects more and more usage of this CDLA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio) technology in future. They call it the future of high-quality sound. CDLA is the main highlight of this handset.

And otherwise, the loudspeakers are placed at the base of this phone on either side of the USB Type–C port. They have also provided usage of abundant music from Hungama.

STORAGE

This phone has a 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal memory without any separate external SD card slot. The available user memory is around 23 GB.

BATTERY

Le2 has a 3000 mAh Li-Ion Polymer and a non-removable battery. It comes with a Quick Charge 2.0 function for faster battery charging which means 50% in just 30 minutes. Le2 also features the Dynamic Voltage Scaling technology allowing the voltage to adjust automatically according to the phone. This means increased efficiency and to charging cycle automatic adjustment.

PRICE & AVAILABILITY

The LeEco Le 2 is priced at Rs. 11, 999/- and will be available for registration until June 28th 2016, 11:00 AM. The 1st Flash Sale will begin at 12:00 PM the same day i.e. June 28th 2016. You can register and/or buy the LeEco Le2 smart phone here.

VERDICT

This for sure is a budget friendly phone with all specs in line with the price. Though it’s not for religious selfie lovers but clicking pictures in well lit surroundings with the rear camera is a boon. It has an incredible display featuring all true colors. The performance is good to go and the phone works absolutely lag free. And it surely won’t disappoint you with it’s all new CDLA audio technology.
