There have been various rumors surrounding the next Microsoft flagship smartphones and come October 6, those rumors should be put to rest. Microsoft has just started sending out invites for an event on October 6 in New York, where it plans on showcasing new Windows 10 devices.
The invite from Microsoft reads, “We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices.” While the invite doesn’t reveal much about the “devices”, we expect a whole lot of announcements to be made. This is the day Microsoft should be detailing the Windows 10 mobile along with its much awaited Windows 10 smartphones. The rumors point to a Lumia 950 and its supersized sibling in the form of Lumia 950 XL. An ultimate flagship in the form of the Surface Phone has been rumored to but its debut is highly unlikely.
Along with the high-end Lumias, the rumors also point to a new Surface 4 Pro tablet, powered by Intel’s 6th gen Skylake processors, Windows Hello support with an iris scanner, ability to wake up the device using a voice command, better battery life and design improvements. The next gen Microsoft Band 2 is also expected to be unveiled with a new and improved look.
The Lumia 950 is rumored to be packing some top of the line specs like a 5.2-inch Quad HD (2560x1440p) display, the Hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 3 GB RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. Lumia 950 XL, as the name suggests will be the bigger sibling of the 950 and it’s rumored to be packing a 5.7-inch QHD display, Octa-core Snapdragon 810 and a 3,300 mAh battery. Both the flagships are supposed to be packing a 20 MP PureView rear camera along with a 5 MP front-facing camera unit. The devices are also rumored to pack Iris sensors for biometric authentication, wireless charging and USB Type-C connectors.
Microsoft will be live streaming its event here and the event is scheduled for October 3 at 10:00 am EDT (7:30 PM IST).
