Sony has just announced a monster of a smartphone or rather call it a phablet, the Sony Xperia Ultra Z which has a huge 6.4-inch display and comes with fastest Qualcomm chipset, that is the Snapdragon 800. So lets divulge into more details since it brings some amazing hardware for us to lust for. Shall we?

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra was previously rumored and leaked by the codename Togari and more recently with the quite apt moniker Xperia ZU, Sony has finally gone ahead and unveiled the device at the Mobile Asia Expo.

The 6.4-inch display of the Xperia Z Ultra is pure awesomeness on paper and hopefully in real as well as it features Sony’s OptiContrast and X-Reality technology which is the successor to the previous BRAVIA engines Sony used on displays in its smartphones. The display is a Triluminos display which Sony says “reproduces a greater range of rich, natural colours to deliver true, natural shades just the way you want to see them”. The display is FHD giving it a ppi of 344 which is good enough and on such a huge display it will surely be a treat. And moreover you can use the Xperia Z Ultra’s display with a regular pen or a pencil and any other capacitive stylus which should be great for people who love sketching.

The beast runs on the fastest Qualcomm or better say ARM chipset right now, Snapdragon 800 at 2.2 GHz coupled with Adreno 330 GPU. It is sure to be the Benchmark champion the time it releases.

The design of the Z ultra is quite similar to Xperia Z which is not really a bad thing although there are improvements, it adds a metal frame along the sides. Like the Xperia Z, the Z ultra is also waterproof but with a IP58 certification unlike the IP57 certification of the Xperia Z which means you can dig the phablet deep into water for a longer duration of time and dust resistance is also there. There is a 8 MP Exmor RS sensor which records videos at 1080p with HDR for both videos and snaps and a 2 MP front facing camera which can also do videos at full HD.

The Xperia Z Ultra comes with 4G LTE support, HD voice and NFC as well. It also features Sony’s audio improvements like ClearAudio+ and xLOUD along with the Walkman music player.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is amazingly very thin at 6.5 mm but it does not compromise on battery to get that thickness as it features a 300 mAH battery although the thing is a bit on the heavier side at 212 gms.

It runs the latest Android version along with Sony’s customizations to make sure the interface uses the screen estate and the processing power.

The Xperia Z Ultra will hit the shelves in Q3 in three color options: black, white and purple. There’s no word on the pricing yet which is obvious since the phone ain’t releasing now so we will get to know as the release gets closer. As always we’ll keep you posted.
