How to use Picture in Picture mode on your iPad

Whether you are chatting with your friends or surfing internet, you can continuously watch your most favorite videos while doing your important task with the help of the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. The PiP is one of the best essential features in iOS 11 which is specially developed for iPad. It allows you to perform multiple tasks simultaneously on your iPad. If you have iPad models after iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2, you will be able to use the feature on your device. Here’s full tutorial to use Picture in Picture mode on iPad.

There are a number of apps such are Default Video Player, Netflix, Amazon, ESPN, HBO Go, Hulu, MLB, NHL, Pocket, Showtime and Vudu supports Picture in Picture mode. Well, Google’s YouTube app is still in the pipeline. You can also quickly control, adjust and reposition PiP mode on your device to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Even if you don’t want this feature automatically, then you can also completely disable this function.

Make sure that you are using the Picture in Picture mode in an app which is supportable with this function.

How to start Picture in Picture on iPad in iOS 11

Step 1:  Launch Video app on your iPad.

Step 2: Play the video.

Step 3: Tap on PiP button at the bottom right corner of the screen.

It will automatically open when you left a PiP-enabled app while the video is playing.

How to re-size Picture in Picture window on your iPad

The Picture in Picture mode defiantly pops up in quarter size, but you can easily resize it as per your desire.

Step 1: Touch two finger down on the PiP video.

Step 2: Next, you need to pinch your finger together to shrink the video.

Step 3: Spread your finger to expand the video.

Step 4: Release the window.

How to Reposition Picture in Picture window on your iPad

The Picture in Picture mode defiantly pops up in at the lower left-hand side of the screen, but you can easily reposition it as per your preference.

Step 1: Touch one finger down on the PiP.

Step 2: Drag the video to any place on the screen.

Step 3: Release the windows.

You also have an option to minimize the PiP video without stopping the video’s sounds while you want to use the full screen of the iPad.

Step 1: Touch one finger down on the PiP video.

Step 2: Drag the PiP sideways off the screen

Step 3: if you want to continue watching the PiP video, you can pull small PiP handle button.

How to manage Picture in Picture windows on iPad in iOS 11

    Go back to the app: Tap on two rectangular and an arrow icon to return to the main app and open full screen.

    Play/Pause: To stop and resume video.

    Close: To end the videos playback.

How to completely disable Picture in Picture windows on iPad

If you found this feature very irritating and it often open randomly then you can easily turn it off by following this step.

Step 1: Open Settings app on your iPad.

Step 2: Tap on General.

Step 3: Tap on Multitasking.

Step 4: Turn off Persistent Video Overlay.
