Micromax’s YU subsidiary has launched some great value for money smartphones in the recent past and it’s no surprise that they have launched yet another great budget smartphone. Their latest smartphone is the YU YUNIQUE, which does sound weird but the smartphone seems pretty great for the price. So, let’s check out the details of the new YU device, shall we?
Design and Build Quality
The YU YUNIQUE features a design similar to the YUPHORIA sans the metal design. Considering the price, the device does look good. The affordable smartphone is pretty slim at 8.3 mm and weighs in at around 128 grams. The device also features a 3-element key, which we’ll have to test to find out the experience.
The YUNIQUE features a 4.7-inch HD (1280x720p) display. For the price, the display seems a good one and there’s Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch resistant. The display is also fully laminated for sharper images and better contrast.
Performance and Battery
The YUNIQUE is powered by the 64-bit 1.2 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with Adreno 306 GPU. There’s 1 GB DDR3 RAM for your multitasking needs. There’s a 2000 mAh battery, which should be decent enough for the specs of the device. YU hasn’t cut corners in the processing and battery department, that’s for sure. The device should run pretty well enough with the specs it has.
On the camera front, the device features an 8 MP f/2.0 autofocus rear camera with an LED flash and a 2 MP wide-angle front-facing camera. YU claims great low light performance from the camera and for a budget aimed smartphone that sounds pretty good.
Software and UI
The YU YUNIQUE comes with Cyanogen OS 12.1, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. We can expect fluid performance, considering Cyanogen’s interface is mostly stock and the customizations it brings are pretty good. We can also expect future updates and for a device priced this low, that should be pretty good news.
The YUNIQUE has things covered pretty well in the connectivity department. There’s 4G LTE connectivity along with Dual SIM support. The device also packs in the usual other connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Price and Availability
The YU YUNIQUE is priced at an amazing Rs. 4,999. The device will be exclusively available through online retailer Snapdeal. The registrations for the device have already opened and the sale is scheduled for 15th September at 12:00 PM.

For a price tag of Rs. 4,999, there’s no denying the fact that YUNIQUE is a winner already. The competition, which features the likes of the Moto E, Lenovo A2010 and more should be pretty scared. The YU smartphone trumps them all in mostly all departments. Having said that, we would want to play with the device and judge if the device is indeed as good as it sounds on paper.
